Getting to the heart of why self-publishing can be a great option for some writers

Getting a great idea and the motivation to write a first draft is no easy task. But if you are a person that was able to accomplish this, that first draft may just be the beginning. If you don’t want to settle for the personal satisfaction of simply getting words down on paper, you have a few options for what to do next.

Many new writers choose to go the traditional route. They write dozens of query letters to try and find an agent that will represent their book. If you get the agent, then you have to wait to see if any publisher is willing to take a chance on your book. This process can last for years. Whether any of this works out or not isn’t always based on someone’s talents. Sometimes, it is just in the hands of fate.

That is why today’s publishing landscape is filled with options for writers. None of us have to bow down to traditional publishing anymore. But trading in a book deal with a big-name publisher for more control over every aspect of your book isn’t for everyone. I have chosen to be a self-published author because of all the constant changes this industry goes through. For instance, I think the content of my books should be the only thing considered for potential publication — not whether I have a solid social media…
