Celebrating even more kooky movie gems

We’ve come to the end of October, which means the end of my search for retro horror gems across streaming platforms. I’m ready this year, because I find myself craving the coziness of holiday-themed titles. I want to get to them quick — and no, I don’t mean anything put out by Hallmark, GAF, UPTV — I’m talking the good ol’ classics — He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special, Mr. Magoo starring in his version of A Christmas Carol, anything with Bing Crosby, etc.

So let’s get into the last batch of 2023:

Twins of Evil (1971)

This is your classic one-twin-turns-vampire story. When twins are taken in by a religious zealot of an uncle, one wants to rebel. She ventures out at night and ends up meeting the wrong guy. It’s a decent movie, but not one that I would consider in any way scary, mostly because it was predictable and a little more witch-hunt than vampire stalker.

Lisa and the Devil (1973)

Oh, those Italian horror movies. A lot of them make little sense to me, aren’t completely terrifying, and star Carroll Baker. This one doesn’t star Baker, but it does tick the first two boxes. This was definitely another one that I missed key parts of because I simply couldn’t hear the dialogue…
