October Retro Horror Marathon 2024: Week 2
Even more spooky stories to explore
I think I’m just not into being scared this year. Either that, or these movies are not giving me the shiver down my spine that I want. That doesn’t mean they are all total duds (though some of them should probably be left undiscovered). I do like a few of these, but not because they were scary.
Let’s get into it:
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)
So, this is a pretty famous movie, right? I just don’t know how that was possible, at least in the horror genre. Except for some jump scares at the end, I wasn’t even mildly interested in watching this one (yes, I happened to look at my phone a few times, likely missing key parts of the movie). From what I did see… eh.
Verdict: not scary
The House That Would Not Die (1970)
A great house that just happens to be devilishly haunted? Sign me up. I didn’t quite understand who was haunting who in this film, but throw in a séance, Barbara Stanwyck, and the lady that played Don Hollinger’s mother on That Girl, and you have a strange set of circumstances — strange enough to be a little on the scary side.
